My Jesus....

...loves me to love others.

...smiles at me through my children.

...loves my neighbors and my brothers as much as He loves me.

...gives me the strength to keep serving even when I want to go home to bed.

...teaches me to get along with my husband.

...helps me get over the grumpies on Sunday morning.

...helps me whisper when I feel like yelling.

...doesn't 'need' me, He wants me.

...loves me.

...loves you too!

A Happy Mother of Children.

Pardon me while I borrow my blog to rant, oh wait, it's my blog! Today's post will be a rant! You have been warned! ;)

I received a 'tweet' the other night from a friend, who knows my story, about a discussion regarding embryo adoption. She knew that I would respond with joy! In that discussion, someone posted a comment that, well, frankly, chaps my hide.

The comment basically says that it is not 'Biblical' to seek treatment for infertility, and that infertile couples are supposed to adopt.

And so, the following rant is loosely directed at the author of said comment...

She says, "God clearly states in the bible that he opens and closes the womb"

I believe this to be true, but I would like to know exactly where that verse is. And if you read the accounts in the Bible of infertile women, there is only one woman whose womb he closed permanently. That woman was the wife of King David, who mocked David when he laid aside his kingly robes to worship God with every fiber of his being. That woman, and that one alone, never bore children.

The other women, Sarah, Hannah, Rachel, and Elizabeth, all pleased God and their barrenness had a purpose and a time line. And in due time, GOD opened their wombs. Think about the timing of any of the sons born by these women and how those births either made a significant statement about God's power or fit into a precisely timed plan that God had before the beginning of time.

She says, "I believe that All IVF and fertility treatments are wrong."

Ok, first off, your belief doesn't make something Biblical, but let's use your logic and see where it takes us. If fertility treatments are wrong based solely on the assumption that God made you the way he wanted you to be and you should accept it. By that logic, people with poor eyesight should not wear glasses or have lasik eye surgery. By that logic, people with cancer should not seek treatment they should just wait to die. By that logic, people with bad teeth should not get fillings, root canals, or dentures. In fact, by that logic, no one should seek medical treatment for any disease. God created us with legs and He didn't create cars, so by your logic we should all be walking everywhere we go. I'm feeling like we should all be Amish here, anyone else?

Ummm, yeah, that is not really logical at all is it? You see, God gave us cognitive reasoning as humans so that we could LOGICALLY find solutions for problems. It is what makes us human. We have doctors because God gave us the ability to learn, to use that ability to help us. And while I'll be the first to admit that sometimes our own logic gets in the way of our dependence on God, I also know that He still opens and closes wombs as HE sees fit no matter whether we used fertility drugs to try to get pregnant, or birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. And sometimes God confounds us by doing the miraculous.

She says, "if you can not have a baby the good ole fashion way then it is not ment to be and that maybe you were ment to adopt a child already born who needs a home."

Actually, the Bible never says any such thing. What the Bible does say is, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27 This verse is not pointed only to infertile couples, it's for anyone to follow who loves God and wants to please Him. *Gasp!* That means YOU too! Take out the PLANK, baby!

What bothers me most about the entire post, words, attitude, assumptions, opinions, is that it completely lacks understanding and compassion. You barged into a discussion that a hurting woman seeking information and support wrote in order to vomit your opinions and steamroll the feelings of others all in the name of God, a God who shows mercy after mercy, grace after grace, and puts LOVE above all because, love is by nature who He is, and asks those who love Him to do the same. Your post gives the God I know a bad name. And that chaps my hide.

Here's what my Bible says,
" Who is like the LORD our God,
the One who sits enthroned on high,

who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

he seats them with princes,
with the princes of their people.

He settles the barren woman in her home
as a happy mother of children.
Praise the LORD."

Psalm 113:5-9

To be continued....
